October 10th, 2008 - Kaka

Second player review - Kaka

Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite, better known by his nickname Kaka, is one of the best players to ever come out of Brazil. He came onto the club scene in 2001 and moved from São Paulo to AC Milan. He still plays on AC Milan, as well as on the Brizilian National team.

Kaka shows his amazing skill for the game time and time again, constantly coming up big for his team. By playing the attacking midfielder position he is a very strong threat on offense. His play complients his other teammates up top by steping up and scoring goals when he needs to, but fading into the background and playing the supporting roll as well.

Even though he's 27-years-old, I see him playing for a much longer time. He's in good shape and a hardworker, which will enable him to stay on top of his game. Soccer audiences will be seeing him for a very long time.

It'll be interesting to see if he leaves Milan, especially considering that Man City just got the royal family of the United Arab Emirates to buy the club.

And I also find it interesting how a guy named Ricardo can change his name to Kaka. At least Ronaldihno's name is Ronaldo, you know?

ASSIGNMENT - Putting aside your love for the sport and any bias that comes with it, give us your honest assessment on what it's going to take for soccer to reach a level of interest in this country that's at least on par with something like the NHL. I won't say NFl, because that's not fair, but how about a minor major league like the NHL?

I agree on both accounts, but I personally think that he'll stay with Milan. He's played there for so long, and he's become a real critical player on the team. I think Milan will throw all kinds of stuff at him to make him stay.

While doing research on him for the blog I found out how he got to be called Kaka. When his younger brother was younger he couldn't say Ricardo, so he started calling him Caca, which is a shortened form of Ricardo in Portuguese (like Bill for William). It eventually turned into Kaka.
